Summary:The Oncology nurse is responsible for conducting initial
and ongoing assessments of the oncology patient to include
physical, psycho-social, financial, nutritional, educational, and
spiritual. The nurse provides nutritional counseling based on the
patient's condition, treatment modality, and treatment site and
offers nutritional supplements or dietary referrals as needed.
Recognizes and reports patient's behavioral and physiological
changes and provides interventions as needed. Verifies patient
identification prior to performing any procedures and practices age
specific explanations and reassurances as needed. Performs clinical
skills which includes blood draws and assists with simulation
procedures requiring the instillation of contrast media. Documents
and maintains oncology records, practices infection control and
participates in Quality Assurance and other educational activities.
Collaborates with other health care workers and serves as a
liaison. Ability to get along with co-workers and demonstrates
regular and reliable attendance. Assures confidentiality of patient
information, departmental, and hospital affairs.Minimum
Qualifications:· High School graduate or equivalent. Graduate of a
School of Nursing· Bachelor of Science· Current PA Registered Nurse
License to practice nursing in the Commonwealth of PA required·
Current American Heart Association BLS· Oncology certification
within 2 years· One year Nursing Oncology experience· Oncology
Nursing Certification· ACLS certification· Able to read Monitor
strips · Experience with Conscious Sedation· Experience with
