successful.Responsibilities:Job Summary:The Dentist provides and
supervises the complete dental care of facility detainees.
Evaluates and seeks improvement in the facility dental health
program, dental services provided, patient care
required/administered, dental operative conditions and equipment in
use. Functions as a consultant to the facility staff
physician.Primary Duties and ResponsibilitiesThe Dentist initiates
and maintains compliance with company policies for
accreditation.The Dentist completes an initial dental screening on
all new commitments within seven (7) days.Evaluates those patients
needing or applying for dental care and makes recommendations
deemed clinically appropriate. Takes impressions for dental plates.
Sends prostheses to outside dental labs.The Dentist formulates and
create treatment plans on an individual basis after a thorough
exam.Performs routine cleaning, drilling, filling, and extraction
of teeth in accordance with National Commission for Correctional
Health Care Standards for dental care.The Dentist educates patients
on maintaining proper oral health and prevention.Teaches patients
about diet, flossing, use of fluoride, and other aspects of dental
careThe Dentist prescribes pharmaceuticals, other medications, and
treatment regimens to treat identified and documented dental
conditions and regularly reviews those cases requiring ongoing
medical/pharmaceutical attention.Produces clear and concise health
records, reports and correspondence, including the use of
Electronic Health Records systemThe Dentist monitors need for
dental supplies and equipment.Provides in-service training for
health staff members on appropriate issues, such as dental hygiene,
dental care, dental emergencies, and techniques.The Dentist
supervises the work of professional, technical and administrative
staff. Provides input into performance evaluation.Maintains patient
confidentiality and comply with all federal and state health
information privacy laws.The Dentist collaborates and communicates
effectively with the Hospital medical team, Psychiatric, Mental
Health Professionals, Nurses, Health Technicians and Administrative
AssistantsMaintains professional and technical knowledge by
attending educational workshops/seminars/conferences, reviewing
professional publications, establishing personal networks, and
participating in professional societies.The Dentist maintains a
professional appearance and demeanor.Performs other various duties
as assigned.Qualifications:Minimum RequirementsDegree in dentistry
from an accredited dental school required. Licensed to practice as
a registered dentist in the state in which the facility is located
is required.Professional license must remain on file at all times
at the facility where services are rendered.Must be able to deal
effectively with difficult detainees and staff at all
times.Demonstrate the ability to adjust medical techniques to
accommodate the needs of the specialized population of the
detention setting. This includes communication between medical
staff and detention staff about the care of detainee while
understanding and adjusting for the unique security issues of the
