Job Description:
OVERALL OBJECTIVE OF JOBThe primary function of this position is
to oversee and supervise the total delivery of nursing care and
related services for all residents and in compliance with all
federal, state and local standards, guidelines and regulations
which govern the facility, and, as directed by the Director of
nursing Services and/or the Administrator so as to ensure each
residents medical, psychosocial and spiritual needs and wishes are
met effectively and efficiently on a continuum.ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
OF JOBGENERALPlans, organizes, directs and provides resident care
and services according to physician orders and the
interdisciplinary plan of care.Administers drugs and treatments in
compliance with facility policy and procedures.Assists in the
development and maintenance of resident assessments and
interdisciplinary plans of care.Makes daily resident rounds,
addressing and correcting any necessary operational issues as
indicated, making verbal and/or written reports for the Director of
Nursing Services.Performs venipuncture to obtain blood
specimens.Initiates and maintains IV therapy including the
administration of IV medications.Uses infection control techniques
to prevent the spread of communicable diseases.Maintains a safe
work environment and exhibits safe work practices.Assists
subordinate positions in rendering of care and services as
necessary and/or directed.Answers resident call bells, regardless
of assignment.Adheres to, up-holds and enforces all facility
policies and procedures.Completes various documentation and reports
as directed.ADMINISTRATIVEMonitors and supervises the work of the
L.P.N.s and Nursing Assistants so as to ensure the needs of each
resident is met on a continuum.Assists in interviewing, hiring,
scheduling, training/orienting and initiating disciplinary actions
as warranted.Attends all department meetings, educational programs,
etc., to the Director of Nursing Services.Actively participates in
overall facility management and makes recommendations for quality
improvement.Reports any supply/equipment needs, repairs, etc., to
the Director of Nursing Services.Responsible for processing
employee health directives regarding work-related injuries.Reviews
policies and procedures, makes recommendations as warranted.Adheres
to, upholds and enforces all regulations and recommendations of the
Department of Health, the Health Care Financing Administration, the
Department of Public Welfare, etc.Participates on various
committees as assigned.OTHER DUTIES OF JOBAssumes all other duties
as assigned.Maintains a professional, customer-oriented demeanor at
all times.Works within a team concept and is thus cooperative with
co-workers and peers.Maintains confidentiality of
information.Represents the facility in a positive
manner.SUPERVISION RECEIVEDReceives instruction and supervision
from the Director of Nursing Services. Reports to the Director of
Nursing Services.QUALIFICATIONSEDUCATION/TRAININGGraduate from an
accredited school of nursing and in possession of a valid license
issued by the Commonwealth of PA.Minimum of one (1) year experience
in a long term care setting.Current certification in
cardiopulmonary resuscitation.KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
REQUIREDMust be able to speak and understand the English language
in an understandable manner in order to carry out essential
functions of job.Must possess ability to function independently,
have flexibility and the ability to work effectively with
residents, co-workers and others.Must possess effective
communication and interpersonal skills, particularly in dealing
with elderly and ill populations, health care providers and
community services.Must possess ability to maintain confidentiality
in regard to resident information and records.Must possess
knowledge and ability to operate medical equipment, utilizing all
safety procedures.Must possess general knowledge of care and
procedures used to assist residents in daily care and comfort.Must
possess knowledge of and the ability to use proper body mechanics
to meet physical job demands.Must possess ability to interact
effectively with residents and their families and assist in
providing emotional and social support.Must possess ability to
evaluate and interpret information.Must possess knowledge of and
the ability to properly record, chart and document necessary
information as required by established policies/procedures.Must
possess knowledge of federal, state, county and nursing home
policies and procedures as they relate to medical personnel and
care of residents.Must possess knowledge of infection control and
universal precautions and the ability to apply same to essential
job duties.Must possess excellent organizational skills and the
ability to accomplish several duties and meet schedule of various
departments regarding residents care.Must possess knowledge of and
comply Resident Rights, including but not limited to the treatment
of residents, dignity of residents and personal and property rights
of residents.Must possess ability to calmly communicate with
