Strong clinical skills in perioperative nursing Description:
Assesses and responds to the individual physical, psychosocial, and
spiritual needs of the patient through personal observation and
interaction. Acts as a patient advocate. Utilizes professional
nursing skills and judgment; takes action to implement nursing care
and treat the problems identified. Communicates patient assessments
to the appropriate individuals, ensuring the coordination of
patient care. Demonstrates knowledge of diagnostic measures such as
labs, radiology, and EKG. Demonstrates skills in IV therapy.
Transcribes and implements physicians' orders accurately and in a
timely manner while admitting patients efficiently. Documents in
the patient clinical records via computer with accuracy and in a
timely manner. Checks the required information on the patient
record to comply with the correct surgical procedures. Completes
final review of the patient record to ensure all paperwork and
activities are complete. Provides appropriate and knowledgeable
instruction and education to the patients and their families.
Decrements supplies according to policy. Utilizes supplies,
equipment, and resources to contain costs without compromising
patient care. Assists with housekeeping duties such as cleaning and
making beds as needed for patients. When assigned to the PACU, uses
knowledge and critical thinking to assess and give appropriate
nursing care. Recognizes patients' needs; maintains airway,
monitors vital signs, and utilizes correct medication to control
pain. Consults with the surgeon and anesthesiologist if any
difficulties arise that affect the patient. Evaluates the patient's
status using discharge criteria to safely move the patient to the
next phase. Familiar with the transfer process and procedures for
sending a patient to the facility. When functioning as a float
nurse, maintains communications between all areas and is available
to assist staff as needed. Relieves staff for breaks and lunch in a
timely manner and utilizes staff in a cost-effective manner. Works
as assigned in the pain management and eye laser procedure rooms.
Familiar with anesthesia supplies; assists with nerve blocks; knows
the location of emergency carts and medications. Participates in
committee meetings, offers suggestions for improvements, and seeks
guidance and direction when needed. Performs other duties as
