(0645-1915) Job Description The Emergency Room Nurse provides
professional nursing care based on current nursing knowledge
through the use of Emergency Nurses Association (ENA) standards.
This includes utilizing the nursing process to assess patient
needs, develop care plans, implement nursing interventions, and
evaluate patient care outcomes for a diverse age population—from
neonates to geriatrics. The role is subject to scheduled on-call
assignments as needed, influenced by community events impacting
Emergency Department patient volumes. Responsibilities - Triage
every patient entering the emergency care system, determining
priorities of care based on physical and psycho-social needs. -
Conduct hourly rounding within the department and half-hour
rounding in the waiting room for patients awaiting care. - Document
in-depth nursing history including chief complaint and health care
status. - Develop and implement a plan of care based on ongoing
assessments, ensuring the availability of supplies and equipment. -
Continuously update the plan to meet patient and family needs based
on assessments. - Manage emergencies and complications following
facility policies and ENA standards. - Recognize changes in patient
health status, directing appropriate care for patient safety. -
Document patient responses to interventions to facilitate medical
care. - Provide health education to patients and families before
initiating treatment. - Assist patients and families with accurate
information on health status and referrals, documenting
understanding of discharge instructions. Required Experience /
Certifications / Licensure - Current Pennsylvania RN licensure. -
Certification in American Heart Association Healthcare Provider
Basic Life Support (BLS), with renewal every two years. -
Certification in American Heart Association Healthcare Provider
Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS), with renewal every two years.
- Certification in American Heart Association Healthcare Provider
Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS), with renewal every two
years. - Valid National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale (NIHSS)
