Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: RN Specialty: Medical

Certifications: BLS Certification required Must-Have: 1 year of
experience First-time travelers are accepted Description: The unit
comprises 48 beds. Nurse-to-patient ratios are 1:5-7 on days and
1:6-8 on nights. Common diagnoses include pneumonia, urinary tract
infections, altered mental status, gastrointestinal bleeding,
alcohol withdrawal, and falls/weakness. Registered Nurses are
required to titrate drips with some exceptions. There is no cardiac
drip titration, and common titratable drips include heparin,
bumetanide, and furosemide. There is a charge nurse on each shift
who will take a patient assignment on day shifts. Night shifts may
have one or two charge nurses, and if only one is scheduled, they
do not take an assignment. Patient care technicians are available
on the unit with an average ratio of 1:10-12. Registered Nurses are
responsible for vitals, blood glucose monitoring, EKG applications,
bathing, feeding, toileting, turning, and positioning. Respiratory
therapists administer breathing treatments and manage respiratory
equipment, while Registered Nurses typically monitor and
troubleshoot. A monitor technician is available to read and monitor
telemetry and will call if there are any issues. Registered Nurses
are not expected to interpret telemetry strips. Shifts are 7 PM to
7 AM, and the schedule is prepared by the manager. Travellers are
expected to be flexible and assist in filling gaps in the permanent
schedule. Registered Nurses are required to work every other
weekend and may be asked to participate in holiday rotation. There
is no call or standby requirement. Floating to other Medical
Surgical or Intermediate Care units for lower acuity patients may
occur. Dress code includes navy blue scrubs for Registered Nurses
and ceil blue for patient care technicians. Training includes one
day with an educator/computer system and one day with a preceptor.
The charting system used is Cerner. BSN is not required for this
