people heal. Roles & Responsibilities Accession and identify tissue
specimens accurately, maintaining absolute patient identification
at all times Enter patient demographic data, specimen source, and
physician/surgeon information into the system with care Prepare
labeled tissue cassettes and assist the pathologist during gross
examination Operate and load the tissue processor and ensure
timely, precise processing of specimens Embed, cut sections from
blocks, stain slides, and deliver prepared slides promptly for
diagnostic review Perform frozen section preparation immediately
upon specimen receipt when requested Execute special histochemical
staining procedures within pathologist-requested timeframes Prepare
and package slides or anatomical material for outside consultation
and ensure proper filing/storage of slides and blocks
Qualifications Must be certified as a histotechnologist with ASCP
or hold an equivalent histotechnology certification Comfort and
demonstrated ability with microtomy, embedding, staining, and
frozen sections Proven skill in specimen accessioning, cassette
labeling, and accurate data entry Ability to follow supervisor and
pathologist direction and to work efficiently in a busy anatomic
pathology lab Strong attention to detail and commitment to patient
safety and specimen integrity Education ASCP-certified
histotechnologist (HTL) or equivalent certification (required)
Knowledge & Skills Histology fundamentals and anatomic pathology
workflow Tissue processing and operation of tissue processors
Embedding, microtomy, and slide preparation techniques Routine and
special histochemical staining procedures Frozen section
preparation and rapid turnaround processes Specimen accessioning,
slide and block filing/storage best practices Experience assisting
pathologists with gross examination and consultations Accurate
