Job Description Job Description Operating Room Registered Nurse (Perioperative RN) Schedule: 40 Hours per Week | 8-Hour Rotating Shifts Shift Options: 6:30 AM – 3:00 PM 9:00 AM – 5:30 PM 11:00 AM – 7:30 PM Weekend Coverage & Call: Voluntary Position Summary The Operating Room Registered Nurse (Perioperative RN) provides comprehensive perioperative nursing care in accordance with AORN Standards and Recommended Practices. Reporting to the Director of Surgical Services or designated clinical leadership, the RN delivers safe, patient-centered care throughout the surgical continuum for pediatric through geriatric populations. Responsibilities include patient assessment, development and implementation of individualized care plans, intraoperative support, and evaluation of patient outcomes to ensure optimal surgical safety and efficiency. Key Responsibilities Perioperative Patient Care Conduct preoperative, intraoperative, and postoperative patient assessments Develop and continuously update individualized perioperative care plans Maintain a sterile surgical environment and ensure equipment readiness Apply aseptic technique, patient positioning, and surgical safety protocols Monitor and respond to physiological changes during operative procedures Collaboration & Communication Partner with surgeons, anesthesia providers, and interdisciplinary teams Provide preoperative education and emotional support to patients and families Promote effective communication to support safe and efficient surgical workflow Documentation & Clinical Standards Accurately document perioperative care, patient interactions, and procedures Ensure proper handling and documentation of surgical specimens and cultures Maintain compliance with AORN standards and facility policies Professional Practice Maintain clinical competency and participate in ongoing education Stay current on perioperative best practices, biomedical equipment, and patient safety standards Demonstrate professionalism, accountability, and sound clinical judgment Qualifications Education Graduate of an accredited Registered Nurse program required BSN preferred Experience Minimum of 2 years Operating Room experience required Candidates without full OR experience may be considered for a required 6-month in-house OR training program Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Strong communication and teamwork skills Knowledge of perioperative nursing practices and AORN standards Ability to remain calm and effective in high-pressure surgical environments Professional demeanor with strong emotional intelligence and clinical judgment Licensure & Certifications Active Pennsylvania Registered Nurse license BLS Certification (AHA) – current ACLS Certification (AHA) – current Professional Expectations Maintain ongoing competency in perioperative nursing practice Stay current with clinical trends, ethical standards, and evidence-based care Support a culture of safety, teamwork, and high-quality surgical care
