Position Summary A Radiologic Technologist performs diagnostic
imaging procedures (primarily X-rays) as ordered by physicians. The
technologist prepares patients for examinations, explains
procedures, operates radiologic equipment, and ensures patient
safety while obtaining accurate diagnostic images. Minimum
RequirementsEducation - High school diploma or equivalent. -
Completion of a specialized training program in Radiologic
Technology approved by the American Registry of Radiologic
Technologists (ARRT). Experience - One year of experience
performing radiological procedures in a hospital, clinic, or
physician’s office is preferred. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities -
Knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy, and physiology. -
Knowledge of radiologic equipment, imaging procedures, and
radiation safety. - Ability to communicate clearly with patients,
physicians, and medical staff. - Ability to read and follow written
and verbal medical instructions. - Ability to identify equipment
problems and perform minor adjustments. Licenses and Certifications
- Registered with the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists
(ARRT) in Radiology. - Certified in Basic Life Support (BLS)
according to standards from the American Heart Association, with
renewal every two years. Essential FunctionsPatient Care Duties -
Greet patients and verify their identity using two identifiers
(name and date of birth). - Review physician orders and confirm the
correct imaging exam. - Explain imaging procedures in terms
patients can understand. - Prepare and position patients properly
for X-ray examinations. - Escort patients within the radiology
department or hospital when needed. Imaging and Technical Duties -
Operate radiologic equipment including CR (Computed Radiography),
DR (Digital Radiography), and fluoroscopy rooms. - Perform proper
startup and shutdown procedures for imaging equipment. - Ensure
correct patient positioning and capture the required diagnostic
views. - Transfer images to the PACS for storage and review. -
Assist radiologists during fluoroscopic and specialized procedures.
Portable Imaging - Move portable radiographic equipment to various
hospital departments including: - Emergency Department - Operating
Room - Post-Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU) - Nursing units Contrast
Media Procedures - Prepare and administer IV or oral contrast media
when required. - Recognize and respond to contrast reactions and
document them appropriately. Documentation - Record patient
symptoms, medical history, exam details, imaging limitations, date
and time of study, and technologist initials in PACS. Radiation
Safety - Follow radiation safety practices based on the ALARA to
minimize radiation exposure for patients and staff. Work
Environment - Maintain assigned imaging rooms and keep work areas
clean and organized. - Provide professional service to patients,
staff, and visitors. Clerical and Administrative Duties - Monitor
workflow using PACS, image release systems, and CD burning tools. -
Assist with office functions and clerical tasks during off shifts.
- Perform quality assurance duties when assigned. - Help explain
departmental procedures and clerical processes to radiology
