DescriptionIf you are an Advanced Practice Provider (APP) who loves an upbeat environment, working hands on with patients and their families, then why not consider a job at UPMC?UPMC Altoona is hiring a full-time Physician Assistant or a Certified Registered Nurse Practitioner Supervisor to help support the Altoona Family Physicians. This Palliative Care service is continuing to grow with currently four rotating Physicians, two Advanced Practice Providers, a Social Worker, and a Medical/Administrative Assistant. This team sees consults within the hospital and three local nursing homes and an outpatient palliative clinic. This position requires five years of experience as a Physician Assistant or Certified Registered Nurse Practitioner. Experience in a supervisor role is also required for this position. A background in palliative care and family or internal medicine is preferred. This position will provide consultative services on our inpatient palliative service and see patients in the outpatient clinics that are part of Altoona Family Physicians. Additionally, this supervisory position will include overseeing other palliative Advanced Practice Providers and administrative secretary. The schedule for this position will be Monday through Friday, eight-hour shifts. About every seven weeks, this position will have to do home on-call with weekend rounding.Responsibilities:* Act as a liaison to and preceptor for PA and CRNP students.* Assist staff in preparation of conferences.* Facilitate training of staff for all PA's and CRNP's.* Implements, maintains, monitors, and communicates Human Resources policies pertaining to PA's and CRNP's.* Liaison for all mid level providers for each site. This would include communication to the division management and physicians on behalf of the mid level providers, as well as communication to the MLP's from management.* Organize and oversee staffing of clinical sites with attending physician and Director of Operations.* Oversee staff adherence to compliance requirements including documentation, coding, licensure, internal and external audits, compliance and safety training (OSHA).* Participates in recruitment, evaluation, and management of PA and CRNP employees.* Perform those duties outlined in the Physician Assistant or Certified Nurse Practitioner job description.* Primary contact for patient complaints or other clinical issues on behalf of the physician in his/her absence.* Provides departmental leadership to direct, supervise, and manage daily activities of the PA's and CRNP's; completes annual performance evaluations in conjunction with support staff.* Troubleshoot problems in clinical areas. Work in conjunction with clinical staff to resolve issues.QualificationsQualifications:The individual must be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care and/or interact appropriately to the patients served as specified below. They must also demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span and possess the ability to assess data reflective of the patient's status and interpret the appropriate information needed to identify each patient's requirements relative to his/her age-specific needs and to provide the care needs as described in the department policy and procedures.* Post-baccalaureate degree, 5 years of experience as a certified nurse practitioner or physician assistant, and supervisory experience is required.* PA: A graduate of a Physician Assistant program accredited by the Accreditation Review Commission on Education for the Physician Assistant (ARC-PA) is required.* CRNP: The successful completion of an approved Nurse Practitioner program is required. This position is dependent upon successful attainment and maintenance of hospital privileges, if applicable to the Business Unit practice.Special Skills and Abilities Required:* Ability to establish and maintain positive, caring relationships with executives, managers, physicians, non-physician providers, ancillary and support staff, other departments, and patients/families.* Ability to work productively and effectively within a complex environment, handle multiple/changing priorities and specialized equipment.* Critical thinking, analytical and problem-solving abilities required as related to various aspects of patient care.* Good clinical judgment.* Critical thinking skills necessary to exercise and to lead others in application of acceptable standards of practice.* Mobility and visual manual dexterity.* Physical stamina for frequent walking, standing, lifting and positioning of patients.This position is dependent upon successful attainment and maintenance of hospital privileges, if applicable to the Business Unit practice.Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:Must be eligible for licensure. CPR certification required.
