Job Description Job Description Primary Job Title Specimen Technician Alternate / Related Job Titles Specimen Processing Technician I Laboratory Specimen Technician Clinical Specimen Processor Specimen Processing Associate Location Pittsburgh, PA Onsite Flexibility Onsite Contract Details Position Type: Contract Start: As Soon As Possible Shift / Hours: 3rd Shift Monday–Friday 10:00 PM – 6:30 AM Rotating Saturday 8:00 PM – 4:30 AM Weekends, holidays, on-call, and overtime as required Job Summary The Specimen Technician (SPT I) provides general support within the Specimen Processing Department , performing a variety of production-focused laboratory support functions. This role requires a strong data entry background , attention to detail, and the ability to work accurately and efficiently in a high-volume, biohazard environment while meeting strict quality and productivity standards. Key Responsibilities Perform specimen processing support functions including A-station, presort, pickup and delivery , imaging/microfilming, centrifugation, and aliquoting. Ensure all work is completed with accuracy, confidence, and timeliness . Enter data at a rate of 6,000 alphanumeric keystrokes per hour . Learn and understand specimen types related to client-ordered tests. Maintain compliance with test-ordering regulations , which may change frequently. Work in a production environment with a strong emphasis on productivity and quality standards. Practice proper biohazard safety procedures at all times. Communicate effectively with staff at all organizational levels. Maintain a clean and organized work area . Demonstrate flexibility and adaptability in response to daily operational changes. Adhere to all core values, safety, and compliance policies . Required Qualifications High School Diploma or equivalent. Basic understanding of computer systems . Ability to sit or stand for extended periods. Strong organizational and interpersonal skills . Ability to adapt quickly in a fast-paced production environment . Preferred Qualifications Knowledge of laboratory testing or specimen processing. Medical background, including clinical laboratory terminology . Prior experience in a laboratory, hospital, or production environment .
