Charting Experience Description: Provides professional nursing care
based on current nursing knowledge through the use of the Emergency
Nurses Association (ENA) standards. Utilizes the nursing process
through assessment of patient needs, development of the plan of
care, implementation of nursing interventions, and evaluation of
patient care outcomes for a diverse age population. This position
may require scheduled on-call assignments due to varying patient
volumes. Effectively functions as a team member and as a liaison
between patients and staff. Supports and encourages harmonious
communication skills. Job requires strong verbal, non-verbal, and
written communication skills. Communicates in a highly professional
manner at all times. Demonstrates a high level of mental and
emotional tolerance and even temperament when dealing with
patients. Uses tact, sensitivity, sound judgment, and a
professional attitude when relating to patients, families, and
co-workers. Essential Functions: Triages every patient entering the
emergency care system to determine priorities of care based on
physical and psycho-social needs. Documents in-depth nursing
history, including chief complaint, health care status, and other
pertinent information. Develops and implements a plan of care based
on ongoing assessments. Ensures that supplies and equipment for
patient care are readily available and in working order. Updates
the plan of care constantly to meet patient and family needs based
on continuous assessment and reevaluation. Manages complications
and emergencies according to established policies and procedures.
Recognizes changes in patient health status and directs appropriate
care to ensure patient safety. Documents and acts on patient
responses to interventions to facilitate competent medical care.
Implements health education for patients and families. Educates
patients and families on treatment prior to initiation. Assists
patients and families with accurate information regarding health
status and referrals. Documents understanding of discharge teaching
information given to patients and families. Non-Essential
Functions: Performs related and miscellaneous duties as assigned.
